Enjoying the area

Today is not looking good for the Russian River. LArs has been inspecting the Burban Gypsy to make sure that she is road worthy. Well she didn't pass the test. She lost a bolt and a leaf spring opposite the tire we had fly off. We think after hitting that hellacious bump in Canada it not only craked the wheel studs but the leaf spring also. THe 4 inch lift cracked right in half and fell of yesterday. We have to 4 wheel to get to camp so that is what help loose it so we could tell. The poor Gypsy took a beating on the Alaskan Hwy. Mainly because of that heavy load we are pulling. Saije is hanging out with her first friend in Ninilchik today. We met up with them at about 3:00 and Went canoeing with Mike Vanderford and his daugter Natalie. Wit is a huge pond that they come and go swimming in. On the North side of the pond there is Muskag. Muskag is about 5 inches thick, it consists of grass and roots of miniature trees and moss. There is also a small plant that is similar to the Venus Fly Trap. They call it a Piture Fly Trap. They look like a cotton swab with little red fingers that have sticky glue on them that the bugs get stuck in and then it curls up and eats it. (I guess) The Muskag floats on top of the water. You can walk on it and it's like walking on a waterbed. Your feet get really wet and it feels like you are going to fall through but you don't. Saije and I got a little freaked out and walked really fast and then got imediately back into the canoes. Trace and Dad were right at home. Then we came back to camp and ate Halibut again, this time we cooked it like the Alaskans do. They soak it in cream for a few hours then pat it dry dip it in egg and roll it in this flacky rice stuff, called plinco. Deep fry it at 350 for a few minuets. It is so wonderful. Then we watched a movie about a 13 year old girl wanting to be 30 and realize it isn't what i's all cracked up to be. Saije is 13 and loved it. Then we hit the sack!
