Happy Holidays!
Trace wanted you all to see the finished product. He decorated the tree all by himself, he also created the painting for all his Grandma's and Grandpa's! He loves you all and says, "Merry Christmas!" Qagasaakung for all the presents! Thats how you say thank you in Aleut. I am now the Aleut language teacher in class. He has learned how to say: Hello - Aung Aung, No-Kuuguu, Eye- Dax, Hand- Chax, Feet- Kitax, Listen-Tuutada and Sit-Ungachida. Guess which words he hears the most? (SMILE) Take care ya all! Isilik. (that means talk or see you again, they never say goodbye) Love Cherie
A Bears Fingernails compared to Mucks
Trace just wanted to measure how long his fingernails were compared to the Brown Bears next door. When Traces toenails skim your leg you would think that they were just as long as those claws! And yes the camera is back in action. Hallelujah! So we will keep taking pictures for your shear enjoyment.

King Cove Update!
Hey how is everyone doing? Here in KC the weather is really crazy. Wind blowing at at least 60 mph. and rain that has clogged the drains. Trace was a little worried this morning. As we were going to school the road was covered in water and the City was trying to un plug the drains. Trace thought that KC was going to be covered in water! Poor kid, all he wanted to do was go back to Utah. Right now things are alot dryer. The drains are fixed and Lars just cooked up some Caribou. Now that is some nice tasting vidles. The girls have there first home Basketball game on Tues. the 13 of December. Elyse is suprising us all with her talent and athetic capabilities. Neisha wishes that she was on the sidelines Cheering. She said that she is doing this sport just for the exercise of it! At least she will be fit and able to get away from the boys! Today Trace got to go to Santa's Secret Workshop and pick out a present for his family members. They had some nice items to choose from. He was pretty upset when he found out that the gifts went to his family instead of himself! He has also been practicing his part in the Local Church Christmas Play. He is a Shepherd and dang proud of it. He has one of his parts memorized and the second one dang close. "Christmas has come, greeting to you! Hope you enjoy Our program too." Heck after a cutie like that welcoming you, who wouldn't want to stay!

Thanksgiving in King Cove
Happy Thanksgiving! There's just something nice about a Golden Bird, Glazed Ham, Sweet Yams, Homemade Rolls, Perfect Pumpkin Pie, Real Mashed Potatoes, And Bubba's Buttermilk Pie!
Heck that's not all we ate either. Neighbors brought over Shrimp, Halibut and Bacon wrapped Scallops! I was so thankful that we didn't have to eat Whale! We had a nice dinner, but it just wasn't the same without the Family! I hope that the Christmas Party was ok, since we couldn't be there. Smile! We will be eating good for the next few days. Sorry no pictures are available. Saije dropped the camera, may it RIP! We tried to fix it once, but they are just never the same after you work on 'em! We will have to get one from Santa Clause. Take care-

The Sun is out and the Powder's Bitchin'
Well we have had the last 3 days full of sunshine and snow! I took Cherie, Saije and our neighbor Johnny snowboarding. I dropped them off to hike up about a mile a enjoy some fresh powder. While they were boarding Muck and I tied a rope to the back of the suburban and attatched it to a sled and pulled him up to an awesome spot to sled and watch Cherie and them board down. Saije did pretty good for just starting out and Johnny bonzi down, he was the huge snowball heading our way. And Cherie just slowly cruised down and made some nice tracks. She had taken snowboard lessons years back. Go mama! On our way home the 3 kids got in the sled and we pulled them half way home. The sled is offically out of service. It looks like that sled on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!Holy!

Ice Fishin' w/Lucky Lars
Lars and Much have been ice fishing everysince the lake has froze over. Trace has found this cool stick and Lars attatched some 10 pd. test on it, the crazy thing is Trace has been catching fish on it! The first day Lars stood about 10 feet out on the ice and was trying to convince Trace that it was safe to come out on the ice. After about 5 min. Lars broke through and Trace ran for the truck! Luckily Lars was in the shallow and only went up to his waist. After some locals kept walking back and forth on a "ice" trail Trace decided he would go out. They caught some nice popcicle trout and brought them home and cooked 'em up. They also went down on the lower creek and which pools to one side and freezes over. The fish are alittle bit bigger but your line is constantly having to be cleaned of the iceicles.

Boats and Bears and Playground
There are some awesome boats here. There's this sailboat that I keep dreaming about and it keeps calling my name to buy it! Then I will sail down and pick Lisa and CJ up in Seattle! Hey, it could happen! As for the sign at the playground, No way in heck am I letting Trace swing with the bears! Ya never know what they might teach him! (smile)

Just for the "Halibut"
Lars got up this morning and put a boot in the Burbans tailpipe! It dosen't like the cold weather! No it don't! It's starter is offically RIP! It will take about a week to get a new one so we are SOL!
After abusing the Burban Lars took off on a small skif with the man that found him out on that lonely night, Pat W. They got a nice Halibut and Sculpin that they used as bait. Lars caught a huge Star Fish, not what they were hoping to hook. They went out 30 miles or so off shore and anchored. Lars got a little sea sick, but was able to contain the spillage. He came back with some fish and a sunburn. Saije was so proud that she had to be the one to show one off. That was the smallest the caught and the only one she could pick up!

Volleyball in King Cove
Today we finally got a break in the crazy weather. We have about 4 inches of snow and Trace never comes home! The kids sled all day long, they love it! Trace went through 5 pairs of socks in one day. He gets wet and comes home long enough to change and go out again. The girls have their first home game tonight, it's against SandPoint. If we win we go to Region. Well the girls won. Elyse is a little freek out there. She is a digger, not a picker! (smile) Her and Neisha love to play. Although Neisha dosen't get as much game time, She has been a great bench cheerleader! I am so proud of the girls. They came into a different world and kicked some Bear Butt! The girls fly out to Dalton on Tue. the 15. It is a pretty small town and they play about 15 teams! Then they go to state in Anchorage! Go Rookies! They have seen more of Alaska then Lars and I have! Speaking of Lars he was the line man for there game. He kept yelling, Go Rookies! What a guy! Well Lars got asked to go Halibut fishing tomorrow so well talk to then. Later!

Family time
The girls missed the bus today. We all ate breakfast and spent some quality family time together. We went to school and had a long day. I can't wait until Christmas so we have a few weeks off of school! I am wishing the year away already! Sorry! Lars has parent teacher confences today and Friday. I get to go find out how the girls grades are. I already know how Elyse and Neisha's are because they had to get a GPA before they can leave for the game in Sandpoint Friday. They both get to go this time and Neisha is a little nervous about flying. One girl said to me that it would be weird to get on a bus to go play a game instead of fly. It is the other way around for me.

Class
I can't believe that it is November already! I started my Aleut class tonight, it was very interesting. The pronunciations are dificult for me. I hope that I do ok on the test. Lars went looking for birds, still no birds.

Sugar high
The kids were all tired and restless. I could barely get the kids out of bed to go to school. THey shouldn't have school the next day especially after all the candy kids consume. We had a friend give me some King Crab today. I can't wait until dinner! We are starting my new lesson plans for this week. I am excited the theme is "All about Me". And it is Thanksgiving this month. I love turkey day. I love all the great foods that go with it. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!

Happy Halloween!
Today was the costume parade at school! Trace had a Halloween party and gained 5 pounds! He is so cute! We came home after school and carved pumpkins. He said, Mom you are an awesome pumpkin maker! We also cooked the seeds for Lars, they are his favorite. The girls came home with a thousand friends and I painted four of their faces like "KISS". They looked great! The others were the band-aides! Saije was a grandma in boots and a ski mask. Why, we are still not sure! But we still love her. Lars drove Trace around and got about 10 pds of candy. They do alot of baked goods here because they are still a safe town. Just like the good o'l days. He is going to gain 5 more pds. by the end of the night! When the girls came home their pillow cases were 3/4 full. I have located the MOTHER LOAD! Look out pds, here I come!

Hair , Hair and more Hair!
Congrats Lowell on your awesome new job! I always loved Sundance. We love you! Today I made some Foccacia bread. The kids like it alot better than regular bread dough. I finnaly found something that they will eat! Today I got 3 calls for haircuts. I also did a highlight! Everyone is so happy to have someone who does hair in town! I also had 2 of Lars' students come over and gave them sewing lessons. One is making a quilt and the other is making a pillow. I am begining to get busy! I'll probably have to start making appts. to see my own family!

Carnival, Crab tails and Babysitting
Today is the Halloween Carnival. Elyse and Neisha are incharge of the sponge throwing booth and selling raffle tickest for the PSP player. Trace chickened out throwing the sponges at the principal. So I took upon myself to SOAK him pretty good! Saije is incharge of the dart throwing booth Trace threw 8 darts and hit 6 balloons! Man he needs to get a booth for knofe throwing! Yikes! While we were at the carnival Lars saw a crab boat come in and ran home, got on his rain gear and headed for the docks. When the crabs come in off the conveyer belts they crack the legs off and throw the rest into a huge pile. What you have left are crab tails! You clean 'em you get them for free! And that is alot of meat. He came home with 20 pds. of meat. Now you have to spray them and pull off any sick stuff hanging and throw them in a pot of boiling water for 20 min. then crack open the shell and theres the meat. Cool them or dip them in egg and canned milk then roll in flour and deep fry. I like them in garlic butter myself. I felt like I did when I cleaned the damn clams! It took four hours to clean the crab tails. Next time I'm only letting Lars bring home 10! And not in pds! We gave some away to the neighbors we had so many! I'd mail some home to Idaho and Utah if they had same day! After all that I ended up tending one of my Head Start kids. Cute kids and they play so good together. Saije also had a babysitting job. They had "Ducks Unlimited" in town. They auctioned off recliners, pictures, guns and alot more cool stuff.

Elyse you can fly!
Elyse left for Perryville with the Volleyball team today. Neisha didn't get to go, she gets to go next weekend to Sand Point. They lost to 4 teams at the tournament, and won one game which is there biggest rival, Sandpoint! They had a good flight each way. Elyse can fly! Lars got back his x-rays and they found nothing wrong. Thank goodness. He had a little infection from his big night out in the hills which should be taken care of by the antibiotics. We just need to watch his temp. Tonight I had another customer for a haircut! The news is spreading fast that I cut hair. Tonight is also the HS costume dance. I had to sew two dresses for Saije and a friend. They were Dead Bridesmaides warmed over! Her friend was a country girl w/a gun. Neisha and her freinds were boy's and the otherba cheerleader. EEK!They had an awesome dance. Lars let the girls take the fog machine and strobe light for some awesome effects! Elyse you missed out!

Trace is Spiderman?
Class went great. We don't have class tomorrow so we sent home all the fun things the kids made. Holy! They all needed a grocery sack to get it home! I did go over board! Well their parents can't say that we didn't do any hands on activities. Still no test results for Lars. Hopefully they will come in tomorrow. Marilyn did send a bunch of fun things in the mail. One being Traces Spiderman costume. He played in it all afternoon. He would run down the hall and slide on his knees until he was all the way in the frontroom. He is so cute! He's Spiderman! The girls all had to try on the mask and stike a pose. Crazy sisters!

Crafts
Head Start went alot better today. The kids ask me when can we do another craft? They have been doing great. If they stay on the task then for gym time, if it's sunny; we get to go out side. So today we walked the boardwalk. We made it about a half a mile and the wind kicked up so it was a short walk. We made black cats today. Most of them ended up looking like a Calico Cat. Lars is hanging in there and the girls are getting ready for the Halloween Carnival. Saije has been in charge of alot of the decorations. They love her ideas and she is so artsy I can see why. Elyse and Neisha have a volleyball game in Perryville. They fly out at 9:00am this Friday. Scary! They are bummed that they will miss the carnival that they helped plan. Trace can't wait until the carnival. All he wants is to dress up like Spiderman!

Lars getting X-Rays
Today Lars had a long day. He couldn't walk and ended up at the Dr.'s getting x-rays. When he went in they didn't know what to tell him. He told them that his wife wanted x-rays. They took some pictures and put him on an antibiotic. They think he has an infection in the ankle. He definately has something. His ankle is the size of a softball and no matter what he does, Ice or wraps, no change. He can't even fit his foot in a shoe, he has to wear slippers. Lucky! They had to send the pictures to Anchorage and have them read. They should be back on Wed. I hope that they come back with good news. Our bodies keep getting older everyday, why? Smile.

Teaching, what a challenge.
Today went great! Except I planned way to much for us to do. We made speghetti spider webs. The kids loved it. They thought the noodles felt awesome! I even had a good time. One day down 3 to go.

Bird Hunting
Lars and Muck took off in the suburban looking for Ptarmigan. They didn't see any birds but got some daddy time in. They came back little blue but hungry. We ate speghetti and meatballs, the only way to have speghetti W/Meatballs! Tomorrow I get to be the lead teacher for Headstart. I am so nervous. My lesson plans look like we are in High School. I think I am trying to get to much achieved. Well see how it goes. Over and Out!

Snow in King Cove
We got woke up this morning with a ringing doorbell and a boy so full of excitement it about made me crazy! It was the neighbor asking if Trace could come out and play in the SNOW! Holy! Yes it snowed in King Cove! Trace was singing christmas songs while he got dressed in his snow gear. Now I know why you have to wear snow gear on an airplane! There wasn't enough for a snowman, but enough for a good snowball fight! The wind picked up later this afternoon and blew it almost all away. The girls were in tears! First KC, now snow in KC. They will get over it someday. Lars and his buddy Paul took off and hunted Ptarmigan. No luck! One day they will get into them and we will be eating good! I got invited over to a ladies house to visit. She invited me in and we had tea and Crab Tails. She is a very nice lady. Her husband came home about 1 1/2 later and then it was time for me to go home. She gave me a ride and thanked me for coming over. They love to visit around here. And so do I, I fit right in!

Snow Gear on an Airplane?
Well the winds died down late last night but are still at about 40 miles per hr. Saije never did get to get on the plane to Sandpoint, Ak. The weather is the shits. It is funny to see a Basketball team all dressed up in snow gear to go play ball. One of the rules are: You must dress in snow gear, including gloves and snowboots; incase of a crash. Saije was crying and I was sick to my stomach about her leaving. Luckily they never got out of KC. Lars and I went dancing at a wedding anniversary party. Lars fell in love with me all over again! Poor Lars had to just sway back and fourth, thanks to those damn ankles of his. He is still one the ice. We stayed up until 3 in the morning. Lars and I still can't get used to the time change. The kids have no problem, they are like the energizer bunny. They keep going and going! Well we are OUT!

Hurricane in King Cove, AK.
It was the craziest night for weather that I have ever seen. We had 115 mile and hour winds, true hurricane weather. If you were to look at it on the radar you could see the hurricane eye directly over King Cove. As it passed over us it was sunny for about a half hour and calm. As soon as it passed over it was back up to 115 hr winds again! After school I had to go and get some milk and eggs. You have to drive along the lagoon that takes you over a bridge to the other side of the bay. The winds were from the northwest and hitting the suburban broadside. The waves were coming over the road and the water was at such a force that it came through the door cracks and got us soaked. We almost rolled because the suburban sits so high. Thank goodness it is a big heavy beast. The wind blew over 2 Peter Pan Vans. A four wheeler was rolling end over end down the boardwalk. Yikes! The stories I get to tell! We all survived and none of our gear was damaged. We are supposed to get another storm on Sunday. I hope I am able to get pictures.

Picture Day
Today Saije came home from practice to inform me that the team is going to Sandpoint. They leave on Saturday. Sleep at the school on cots and play 3 games like they did in KC. Then they come home on Sunday. She is growing up so fast. She is traveling without her mommy! I might get to go, it depends how many parents want to go. Well I wish them luck! Go get 'em Rookies! Today we all got our pictures taken. They give you a deal if you pay for at least 2 kids and the rest are free! After paying 37.00 bucks for each packet I'd be broke if I had to pay for all 4. Trace did the half smile he said. Neisha tried to get him to show his teeth and that just wasn't and option. He is getting a mind of his own! Help! That's all I need is 2 Lars' in the home! We'll put there mug on the blog once we get them. Keep it real!

Alaska Day
Well Trace and I got to sleep in and hang out together! Thank goodness for Alaska Day. It's a holiday for the Head start and buisnesses to take a day off. The rest of the school was in session. We listened to music, played puzzles, and scoured the house. Actually I scoured while he played Scooby Doo on the computer. We made Halibut for dinner and watched COach Carter while Trace ran up and down the hall doing ladders. Trace is quite an athlete. If he gets to grow up here he should get plenty of practice. That's all there is to do.

Crush?
Today Trace went and played at one of his friends house. They moved here when we did. She is so in love with Trace. All she wants to do is tell Trace she loves him. Whe got over that after about a week. I have to work on Mondays and he is only in school from 8:00 to 11:30. The little gal invited Trace to come over and play, It has worked out ok. Trace is used to getting hugs and kisses from his sisters so he has adjusted pretty well. On my way home from getting Trade we stopped by the Humpy Hole and Trace calls it, and watched 3 old guys pull out Silver after Silver. They had Trace hoopin and hollerin every time the realed in a fish. It is going to be a stormy night so button down the hatches!

Ah Sunday's
Sunday morning, over cast, smell of recent rain, and long winding roads with Volcanos on every side. We drove for an hour enjoying the peace and quite. Came upon a deep lake that spilled it beauty on the rocks below. The season is changing, the colors so bright. I wish that laying on the canyon floor was possible. We came home and baked bread. I love the smell of homes that have just baked bread. I hate what it does to my body! King Crab season started today. I can't wait till we get to go buy some down at the docks. Yea! Lars hasn't been able to leave his recliner since the 3 on 3. He is still wrapped up in ice. It sucks gettin old.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament
Well the CPR class was the best I've ever been to. I have had to recertify 5 times and the info was so much more up to date and the hands on and the video was just as informative. The 8 to 3 was hard but the staff from the school kept everyone entertained. When we got home we found out that the 3 on 3 Basketball tournament was tonight at 7:00 and I wanted to play. Lars was really soar, but he did it for me. We had cody on our team. He is off Saijes 7th grade team and can hit 3 pointers, but is only 5 ft. nothing. Cute kid and played well. As for Lars he didn't make it to the 2nd game of the double elimination. I had one on one with Kim my neighbor, and her nephew Johnny (the one Neisha is infactuated with) kept Cody buisy so I had to do all the running and making baskets. Poor Lars kept Charles the 22 year old, 7ft giant at the top of the key talking about fishing. He had to come home and have me wrap both his ankles in ice and make him his mommies casserole! Well we didn't win, but at least Lars and I got to go out on a date!

Basketball or Die
Thank goodness it's Friday! We played a couple games at the gym and Trace got to play one on one with his friend Gary. Gary is 5 and has played since he was born and if we could prove it I could garentee that he played in the womb! Trace did great! He even made Gary cry because Trace was giving him a run for his money! Well Lars played alot better that wed. night and I remember what he told me on my 2nd night. You are going to be so soar that you may never want to play again. Well he is hurting and I hope that he hasn't injured anything. In the morning we have CPR class at 8:00am til 3:00, YUCK! So we are going to bed early, Later!

The fishing season is about over
Saije is trying to keep her chin up and make new friends. She is awesome and I hope that we can get her through this. After school Lars took off and went looking for Silvers. No fish in sight! He said that there were nets everywhere but no fish. Our fish supply is very low. No way will it last through the winter. Speaking of winter, we woke up to snow in our mountains. It didn't last long but winter is truly upon us.

Struggles in KC
Today came and went. With the exception of Saije. She is really struggling to fit in. She is starting to go down hill and fast. Her teachers have come to us with concern. We have sat down with her and she has come to the conclusion that she hates it here in King Cove. She has a huge fear of the bears and a boy that has raped a girl in the school. We are going to try and get her through this fear. I have told her that she should feel safe in the school even if this boy is in the same class as her. Which he isn't, thankgoodness. Both her mom and dad are in the school and are there for her at any given moment. She has also been getting in with a bad group of girls. Ones that the parents are not involved in there lives. We are getting her to meet and hang out with some nicer girls of the teachers. I am hoping that this will help. It is hard when you can't make friends as easy as she had in Midway. This is going to be one of the biggest challenges we will face, making sure that our children won't suffer for the American $. Please say your prayers for our little Birdie. Lars and I went to the court and played 3 hard games back to back. I thought Lars was going to die out there on the court. He is out of shape. It took me a few times to get back in the game! The boys and girls were waiting for Lars to take over and before you knew it I was having to give him mouth to mouth! Just Kidding! He struggled but did good just getting out there and playin'. He said that he is up for the season, so we will see!

Lars' classroom evaluation
Lars had his first class room evaluation. He was pretty nervous but everything went great. The kids were the best they have been all year. They must not want to have him leave next year. Let's hope that's how they feel. He had a fun class activity while the principal was there. Everyone needed to bring 3 things that gave them a very special memory and put it in a bag. Lars brought a petrified piece of wood and a pheasant feather and a Breaver skull. The wood reminded him of when Jocelyn found it and the pheasant feather of when he shot the biggest pheastant ever, and the Beaver skull was found by Saije and we hiked up from our camp to a cool trappers cabin. Well Trace is flipping out, it's bed time and I am part of that ritual. Yes he still sleeps with his mom and dad and he is FIVE! I love reading him to sleep and all his funny questions, how could I have him anywhere else?

Picking Berries
Well Trace and I went to my class room until one today. We got ready to go home and one of his classmates and her mom stopped by. Saskia and Cathrine were on there way to go pick Cranberries and asked us to come along. I never knew that cranberries grew on the ground. Well they do and they are the size of the red berries that are poisonous and grow in bushes in grandpa Larsen's back yard. The ground cover is full of them. We are collecting them to let the kids do finger paint with the autumn berries. We have Salmonberries, Blueberries, and Cranberries. It should be alot of fun.

Andrew back on the rode again
Today was a relaxing day. Lars acctually went riding on the 4 wheeler. He did go with some guys and they just kind of explored and got to know the area a little better. They rode up to Mt. Dutton and had a great time and he was back plenty early. I love him so much and I hope that he gets to enjoy life for a very long time. As for the rest of us we stayed home and made Georgia Dawns chocolate chip cookies. They are good but Lars loves his momma's. After getting ready for bed Trace came up with a doozie of a question. Mom do you feed little baby like momma puppies feed there babies? That was an easy qestion to answer but Trace could handle it. He pulled the funniest face and turned red and screamed EEK! Can you blame the poor boy? Trace, I love ya boy!

The Rookies Rock!
Saije had her second game at 11:00 and they got beat! 57 to 37. They let all the bench play and didn't didn't keep a good shooter and a rebounder in the first half. It was sad. The 7:00 game the Rookies beat the Eagles by 5 points. They did awesome. Everyone played and did awesome. Saije got better with every game. I am so proud of Styx! Lars and I let her go hang out with both teams after the game. They played games and danced. She is growing up too fast! Lars and I went over to a guys house that played the accordian. He's about 60 and his buddy that plays guitar is about 55. They love that polka music out here. The guy got winded after playing a song. We are always meeting new people. They call me and check in with me all the time. It's like I have relatives here.

Saije AKA- Styx
Well we made it to Friday. Boy Lars really needed some more down time. Saije played her first Basketball game. She did awesome! At first she was a little apprehensive, but towards the end of the game she Rocked! She didn't make any points but got some good passes. They call her STYX because of those long legs her momma passed down to her! They won there game 75 to 20. They played sandpoint and kicked some but. They have another game at 11:00 in the morning and another at 7:oo pm. She will get some serious ball handling time! She dosen't start but maybe tomorrow! Trace came home from the game and pucked all night! Here comes another bout with the flu. Hopefullly I won't get it. I had to wash everything including pillows. I hope they come out of it. I will probably have to rent a small boat and ore like crazy to get to Anchorage and buy some and hopefully make it back! Well I am out!

Saije has got back?
Another early morning. This is my second day of CDA training. I am getting somemore college classes under my belt. It should take a year and half and I will get a good pay raise. I think that I will just get my early childhood endorsment while I am at it. Saije got her Jersey today. It is a XL! She is a XS! Go figure. No one is small around here so that figures. I have to have her wear it with both legs in one. Kind of like a skirt! Well all is going good and we can't wait till Friday!

Face to face with those who care
Today we all went to school. Lars had a tough day. kids hanging on him and not being able to handle the pain in his arms. He is still very bruised and soar. All the adults critisized him carefully and lovingly. One asked if his backside felt like his but was up between his shoulder blades. Believe me it probably wouldn't hurt. (smile) Lars is still eating sugar like crazy and even into the night. Trace and I went to the gym and played Basketball. It felt good to get some anxioty out. Lars was a little too soar to play. He is getting his rest caught up and getting back to himself. Saije has her first game on Friday. She is so nervous. She gets her uniform tomorrow. The other girls are still practicing volleyball. There games should be starting soon.

The day after
Today Lars stayed home and recovered. I had the Dr. come over and take a look at him when he was safely at room temp. He showered and never stopped shaking. I tried to get some sleep and only ended up watching him sleep. When I finally did get some sleep he paced the floors. What an experience to live through. We are so glad that he did. The girls were so afraid that the bears had hurt Lars. I never told Trace what was going on. He had slept through all of it and only to wake to the tears of joy that he had returned home safely. Lars has spent many hours talking with his family. It is amazing what things bring us closer together. You just hope that you never forget. I went to work while Lars slept the day away and ate like crazy. He kept asking for sugar. He hates sugar and has since he was a small boy. It was hard going to school knowing that I will have to be reminded about the horrible incident again and again. But I had to do it some time. So many people were concerned. It is good to know that people care.

Davey Crockett in King Cove?
It was a beautiful Sunday morning in King Cove, Alaska. I had some chores to do so I got quickly to them because I wanted to go down to Belkofski Bay in the afternoon to see the sights and fish for silver salmon coming from the ocean up into the various rivers that snake through the grassy flats and alders on the opposite side of round hill. I finished with the starter on the suburban at around 4:30 and decided I had enough time if I hurried. I knew that Paul D. and some others had gone down earlier on their four wheelers so I figured I could hook up with them on the beach and ride back with them after fishing. I rode from King Cove to the water tower and wound my way down to the air strip. At this point there are three different trails you can take to get to the beach. I had told Cherie that I was going to take the top trail because it seemed to be the fastest due to less swampy conditions. My ride down was uneventful I was enjoying the beautiful scenery of Mt. Dutton with it's snowy capped peak jutting high in the Alaska sky. I saw many large bear tracks in various areas but did not see any of the large bruins. When I reached the beach I noticed there were quite a few four wheeler tracks but no one was in sight. I decided to go down to the waterfall and checkthere for the others. It was low tide sothe going was easy as I wound my way down the beach with high grass on the left and lots of fresh bear tracks. I got to the waterfall and stopped to drink some water and take in the amazing scenery. From this spot you can view Indian Head, across the bay to Belkofski Villiage ( a ghost town) and up various canyons with unknown names. Everything is green and lush with a hint of fall in the air. I decided to stop for a few minuets and look into some tide pools for some star fish or trapped ocean fish that seem to get stuck in low tides. I was having a great afternoon, it was quiet and serene and perfect weather with an aromatic sea breeze blowing in from the pacific. I always like to go by myself and have been doing so for a good twenty years into the woods fishing, hunting and hiking. I thought at that point I would ride back to the river and see if any of the others had returned or left. On arriving there I noticed no one was there but there were several fish carcasses and sea gulls feeding on them. I knew that Paul and the others had been fishing there and had left. I pulled out my pole and quickly hooked a very large silver. These fish average 8 - 14 pds and fight very hard, they are the funnest fish that I have ever hooked. The fish was around ten pds and fought very hard until I landed it. I decided that he was a big enough fish and it was getting late so I packed up my few belongings and took off. I had a hard time finding the turnoff for the upper trail because I had never reached it from the beach and you have to navigate up the river a ways to find it. I tried but did not succeed and decided to take the middle trail which was right next to where I had caught my fish. I found the trail easily and began riding alon the beach in high grass. As I was riding some sand gave way and put me and my four wheeler on our side. No dig deal it was soft sand and I quickly had the bike back on four wheels and ready to go. I rode about mile up the bike trail when disaster struck. As I was heading through a deep hole the machine coughed, backfired and died right in the middle of the swamp. I worked feverishly trying to start it because of the thick swampy muck I was in. I pulled the air filter and spark plug and found a fouled plug. I quickly replaced it with a dry one and fired up the machine. I thought everything was cool until I tried to move forward and nothing happened. I looked down to make sure I was in gear and saw that I was in four wheel drive and all wheel were spinning. I had fallen ito one of the bottomless holes Alaska is famous for. I quickly jumped back into the cold muddy water and proceeded to push, pull, dig and yell at the four wheeler and my current bad luck. I didn't have a shovel so I took my shotgun apart and used the barrel for a makeshift pick and the stock for a shovel. The going was slow because of the heaviness and greasiness of the mud. I have never seen anything like it. This stuff pulls your four wheeler down and gets ahold of your boots and won't let go. At one point I had to lay down in the swamp to get my feet out and got soaked up to the waist. At this point things started looking grim. It was almost dark, and I was soaked. The lighter I brought was wet and the wind began to blow. Those of you who are not aquainted with King Cove wind need to know that it comes out of nowhere and blows 60 miles per hour with hurricane force gusts. In the one canyon the wind was clocked at one hundred fourty six miles per hour. To add insult to injury I noticeda bear down the small ravine about eighty yards away who was checking in on my progress. I abandoned my four wheeler and ran to the creek to unplug my shotgun barrel and throw the stock and action parts in the river to clean off the mud. I accomplished this just as the sun went down. I took a long look around and took stock of my situation. I had no food, I had no water, no way to make a fire and I was soaked and it was starting to snow. I quickly turned on the atv and set the idle high for light and proceeded to take off my shoes, socks and pants. I wrung them our standing in tall grass with snow blowing all around. After putting my clothes back on I had a panicked feeling and almost took off running thinking I cound just run back home. I had a force myself to be rational and think with a cool head because I was getting worried. I thought of different books that I have read about survival situations and decided that if I took off I had a one hundred percent chance of surviving the night. I went to my four wheeler and looked at my supplies. One knife, one fishing pole, a bunch of wet grass, a reel, seven shotgun shells and an empty smashed beer can and a camoflauge rain poncho I had thrown in at the last minuet just in case it rained a little on the way back. Things were looking worse. I remembered a story about a guy in a similar situation who had sung and paced most of the night to keep the bears away and keep from freezing to death so I began my solo singing and pacing all the while hoping like hell my wife would have someone coming back down the trail before I became bear meat. I kept up my ritual for about two aours talking to myself, singing and shivering my ass off. All of the sudden I saw lights on the hill above the airstrip a long way off. But it gave me hope because I figured that my friends were probably already looking for me. This is the way in King Cove, when someone needs help everyone drops everything and helps until things are right. They are some of the best people that I have ever met outside of my family. For the next two hours I watched in frustration as four wheelers cruised up and down the labarynth of trails that make up the Belkofski trailsystem. At night it's almost impossible to find certain trail. My trail was one such trail, I was situated in a low bowl and even though I flashed my lights many times my rescuers never saw me. The weather grew worse, it began to rain, hail, sleet and snow all at once with winds at sixty miles per hour with gusts. I had to give up on the light flashing gig and run up into the alders, rap myself in my poncho and fall down in the deep grass from the blizzard. I felt foolish, scared, worried and sick to my stomach for the worry I was causing my poor wife, family and friends. I saw a few lights come and go again but they were a long way off again and then they left. I knew they had gone to Lenards Harbor to look for me there which ment that I was capital F..... At this point I started saying to myself that I always scoffed at the people whogot in a situation like this in the wild. I talked to myself because of lack of current company and alway have. Trace, my son always catches me doing this and laughs about it. But I remember vivid memories I thought I had long forgotten. Mostly childhood memories riding horses and backpacking. I recalled one time when my dad ran ito a tree limb and cut his head so bad he had to have a bunch of stitches on his head after loosing alot of blood. He had to hike alot of miles back to the truck with a rag on his head which he would ring out periodically. Thinking of these things I decided that there was no way I was giving up. I had to survive the night because it damn sure looked like my spot in the weeds was home for the next eighteen hours. I propped my shotgun up on the stock so when I nodded off the barrel would fall down and hit me on the head thus waking me up and keeping me from going to sleep and freezing to death. I was so thirsty I could hardly stand it but feared drinking any of the water and besides the creek was past the light and there was a bear close, a rather large bear. The costal bears here are the largest in the world because of their protein rich diets and abundance of food. Most are ten feet tall and tend to stand on their back feet alot which makes them look monstrous. Their tracks are amazingly huge. They look like big foot. One of these days I'm going to place my hand print next to the tracks these bears make to give readers an idea of how big they really are. The locals are extremely cautious and respectful of the bears and all have had close encounters with them. One guy told me he shot at one to scare it and it turned around and casually covered a great distance right at him. He and his partmer took six shots to put him down. All shots connected in the vitals. After mulling over some of the precautions told to me and looking over my measly shot gun. I decided I would rather die from freezing to death than getting chewed on from the feet up by a grizzly. I dozed off and on listening to the howling wind and the bear or bears to the left of me, occasionally I could smell them. They were awful smelling like a sweet and rank smell of spoiled fish and re meat together. I began to think I may have cashed in my chips on this one. I started shivering uncontollably and came to the conclusion that the body does this to warm itself up. I quickly deducted this because I had never been cold enough to observe my body shaking like freaking crazy until it eventually warmed up. I was getting delirious and thinking of my arms and legs as extensions. They were awfully cold and I had to force myself to stand and move around. This seemed to take me an awful long time with so much pain I thought I may pass out. As soon as I had warmed myself up again it was time to wrap back up in pancho and find my spot in the grass. It seemed like it only took a few minuets to start shaking again and for an eternity I repeated the process looking for my bear friends who sounded like large dogs sniffing and snuffling at me to see if I was tasty. For the first time in the woods since I was seven I was scared shitless. This time there were real monsters right there. I began to say my goodbyes to my wife and kids, telling them how great my life had been with them and appologizing for my carelessness for leaeving them at this point in our lives. I didn't cry, I let this knowledge sink in and told myself that after countless stips in the mountains sometimes people catch one in the butt and sometimes they don't survive. I was greatly humbled by the power of the earth's powerfull forces which we have no control over. The wind was playing tricks on me now. I heard children's voices like my second grade class. And I could have swore there was a baby cry once. I fell asleep and a great warmth came over me. I felt so damn good, like sitting in a hot tub that is the perfect temp. after skiing all day. As I slept I had a good long conversation with my two daughters that live in St. George. We laughed and they told me jokes and held my hand and they smiled with big warm smiles at me. I woke myself up because of my laughter and noticed I couldn't feel my feet very well. I thought it kind of funny and giggled over the sensation. Soon I knew that if I didn't stand now I was a goner so I stood up and yelled in the wind that I wasn't going to give up. I wasn't going to freeze no matter what. I hell asleep numerous times and was awakened each time by my daughters telling me jokes. I finally woke up all the way all the sudden and looked at the sky. There was a small grey streak behind the clouds and it was raining lightly. The wind was blowing a steady twenty miles per hour. My four wheeler suddenly ran out of gas and the lights were quickly going dim. I looked around for brother bear and all I saw were tracks . It was steadily growing lighter and I knew I had to get up but my body wouldn't respond. I figured to hell with it I was going to walk out of here now that I could see, so after a couple of tries I stood up and damn near cried out because of pain. My legs and arms were cramped so tight that I couldn't staighten them and I'm sure I looked like a gimp trying to do some jumping jacks. Personally I didn't give a rat's ass what I looked like I was amaed that I was alive standing there. I pulled my pancho over my head and stuck out on wobbly legs thankful to be moving. I was so thirsty I was thinking that I was going to drink the swamp water regaurdless of how sick it may make me later. I was dehydrated and hypothermic big time. I could only climb short distances and stop for rests. I walked this way for about three miles through alders which are like willows but thicker and they are twelve feet tall. I'm here to tell you it sucked man, I got scared all over again because believe me you can feel eyes on you from out of those trees. I knew my night time compadres were tracking me. I got to a spot were the alders are really close together and decided I didn't want to go that way. I backtracked a small way and saw that I had no choice because of cliffs on both sides. I slipped my right hand glove off and started whistling and singing with my shotgun ready to rodk n roll. Walking through there was the hardest thing I've ever done but I had my little sojourn in the swamp overnight. As I topped the rise I saw a coast guard helicopter and it looked real cool. It didn't have landing gear just a big belly to land in the swamp. At that time I spotted a guy on a four wheeler below me, he was turning around and heading down the trail I was on. I started yelling and waving my arms and gun like a mad man. He spotted me even though I was covered with mud. He drove up to me and asked me if I was the missing school teacher, I told him yes and I was really glad to see him. My eyes watered up knowing that I was going to soon be home and my family wound not have to worry any more. I had left the house the the previous day and when Pat W.; the Aleut local hunter and trapper that found me rolled into our driveway it was 9:30 the next day. It took me 2 days to be able to use my arms . The were so wasted and I had horrible dreams. I was lucky and fortunate to have survived the hardest night of my life. I am thankful for a second chance and I can't wait to go riding again. But never by myself.......

A long night in the Larsen home
Saije stayed at a friends last night and came home early this morning with the flu. I had a heck of a mess to clean up from Lars and Traces Birthday. All night long Elyse was pucking all over the place. I walked in the bathroom and Elyse's knees buckled and she hit the floor and landed on her back with her head up against the door. When I ibent over to help her and the puke was coming out of her mouth like an easy flowing fountain and she was OUT! It scared the crap out of me. I started asking her if she could hear me and then she came out of it and was slipping around asking for the phone. When she found the phone it was too late to rescue it, YUCK! Crazy huh? What a night. I threw her in the shower and then put her to bed. So when I finally got out of bed, I was already to get back in. Lars did some chores out side and cleaned to Burbon. Then he took off to the silver hole. After doing 2 huge stacks of dishes and 6 loads of laundry I was ready to call it a weekend. Lars left around 4:30pm. and I expected him back at 8:00. Well he didn't make it home so I made some phone calls and checked if anyone saw him on their ride. They said no, but there was still at group of fifteen out and they said to be patient until 10:30. That was when they were expected back. Well 10:30 rolled around and they called and told me that they never saw him and they were the last group out there. I started to call everyone that rode today and asked if they saw him and all answers were no. I began to panic and took off with a neighbor to see if Lars was walking or maybe we could see some head lights and find him, no luck. After and hour we came back and I called 911. The police then went out with spot lights and no luck. My neighbors Ernie N., Paul D., Jason M., Esiha D. all went out on their 4 wheelers and combed the hills. Each time they covered and area they would report to the Police and the Police would call me. Each time, no luck. It was about 2:00 in the morning and I had to make a decision who to call first. I was very scared about calling and worrying everone and Lars turning up 15 min. later. So I called CJ, Lars' brother. We talked and agreed that I will keep in touch with him and let him contact his family when the time came. I had to keep the phone line open to keep up with the police and I only have one line. Each phone call came and no good news. The police said that they are waiting for the third group out to report. If it was the same then they had to make an official Search and Rescue and call in the Cost Gaurd and State Troopers. They wanted to get in the air by daylight so we had to call by 5:00 am. The call came and still no good news. So all the bike riders returned home for rest and Went back out at 7:00 am. (Dawn is about 8:15 am.) This time the groups went out in shifts to a certain area and called in after walking every square mile. At 9:30 I got the call! A man named Pat W. found my husband! They said that after talking with Lars they would give me a report on his condition. The next call was great! He had no injuries, but suffered through an extreamly cold night with no water and no dry clothing. They were bringing him HOME! All through the night our children and I worried. Lars' family worried. My family worried. Alot of prayers were being made and I had my neighbor Marlene Y. and her daughter Miranda Y. stay with us all night. It was the longest night of my life. As my swollen eyes watched my husband come up the drive I was truly convinced that he was alive. I never thought that this would ever happen to me. My husband has rode by himself for years, but never again. He made our family a promise to never ride alone again. As he slowly walked towards me and said, I am so glad to be home! I am going to write his side of the story tomorrow after he recooperates.

Got Crabs?
Today's Friday! Things are going great. When the girls got off the bus after school they came home to 6 Tanner Crabs crawling in our grass. So when I came home I made a phone call to Sharon and she and her husband Dean had about 30 crabs in their Cod Pots, so they brought us some. Well we called over Jason from next door to show Lars what to do. You take the 4 left legs and bend then at the base of the body until they pop out. Then you throw them in a boiling pot of water about 2 inches deep with a little salt and put a lid on and steem for 20 min. Wala! We froze half of them and ate the rest! Sharon called and asked if I wanted to bring Trace over to her house to see the octopus they had in one of the pots. Trace wouldn't even get out of the truck at first. I tried to get him to hold one of the legs, and he said No Way Jose! I even tried to get him to hold a crab and got the same response. We came back and took over a crab to Marlene and Paul and watched Waylon Jennings Documentary. Awesome!!! We are going to buy it. The girls went to their first KC dance. No one would dance so the girls got out there and showed them how it's done. Saije was doing some twirly thing and ate it in the middle of the whole school. She is so cute. Tomorrow is Trace and Lars' Birthday party. Trace invited all of the Head start kids, it should be fun.

Happy B-Day Lars
Well thank goodness the day didn't start like yesterday. Lars is officially 39. Just think if Trace was really 10! EEK! That is Traces new work, eek. He says it all the time. Trace and I had to stay home from school today. He woke up with a kink in his neck. Poor little guy. It is pretty hard to get him to sit still on a heating pad. He did let me rub some heat cream on his neck and give him some asprin. He felt alot better by 11:00 but he still couldn't turn his head t0 the left. Trace and I made Lars a birthday cake and some Salmon with dill sauce. I hope they like it, something new to try.
It has been raining off and on today, so we will probably stay inside. Lars got some basketball shoes from Marilyn and I. Hey Marilyn he's on the phone with you! I hope that he will start going to the gym with me. Well see. It's a pretty good hint to go, don't ya think? Well Lars never made it to the gym with me. He was buisy visiting with an 8 ft. Bear. He rode up the creek looking for Ptarmigan. He said that once he got up in the Alders that there was no way out just straight uo to the base of the Volcano. Well he came around an Alder and there sat the bear on his honches. Lars let go of the handle bars and grabbed the gun. The Bear stood up scratched his chest and sniffed the air. Lars stood up on the seat and aimed right for his head. The Bear sat back down and Lars stayed right were he was. The Bear then stood back up and stretched his arms out to the side and roared. Lars felt that it was standing it's ground so he did the same. The Bear landed on all fours and took off. My dads bigger than your dad! Lars is very lucky that it wasn't an momma with cubs. She would have had him for dinner. He needs to stop going out alone. It would be very hard to go look for him if anything happened.

The Blame
Well today out alarm clock never went off and since I am the one with the damn alarm clock on my side of the bed I am to blame! Well Lars left for school at 8:00 instead of 7:15 and the girls left at 8:30 instead of 7:40. Trace had to go to pre-school at 10:00 instead of 8:00 and I was right on time! oops! smile. That got everyone started off in a very bad mood, even myself because I was the blame! After that the starter went out again, in the Gypsy. We need a new one bad. The girls had to walk to practice with the bears! They got a ride 1/2 way so they lived to BLame me for it! We all came home, yelled at eachother then went to bed!

Trace is 10?
Trace woke up and Said Hey Mom!, I'm 10 now! Do you know how old that makes the rest of us?
Sorry Trace you are 5! Oh he's a cuttie pie! We went to school and took the cupcakes. The kids couldn't have them until snack time which is right before their parents come, Yea! This bunch can't have any sugar! Trace has an admirer. Her name is Soskia. She kept chasing him and hugging him. At first Trace kept complaining about it. After trying to get her to stop, I saw him falling just so she would have to lug around dead weight. She is about 3 inches taller. Amazon girl friend! Anyway we are trying to get her to just HI-5 with him so she dosen't keep hugging him. She told me that all she wanted to do is tell Trace something. So, I got Trace to come over so she will leave him alone and she said out loud "I love you, Trace." EEK! Trace screamed out loud and almost passed out! This is not going to be as easy as we had hoped. We came home after school and made some salmon dip from the salmon Marge gave to us. She gave Lars a jar and Trace a jar. Dang it was good! I went to work out and ended up playing 2 Basketball games. My body feels alot better today. When I got home Lars told me about his ride up the valley. He came head to head with a huge bear. I hate when he goes out alone. Anyway It was sitting on it's honches and then stook up. So crazy Lars stood up on the 4 wheeler with his gun. The bear stretched out it's arms and pounded his chest then sat down again. Lars stayed standing and tried to find the quickest way out of the Alder bushes. Which there was only the way he went in. Oh how I love that man. Then the bear stood up again and sniffed the air and growled and patted his chest with one paw and landed on all four and turned and walked the other way. I swear Lars has 100 lives. And that's good cause he needs them. The phone rang after I got the whole story and Sharon Bug called me. Everyone ends names with bug, it's kind of cute. They call me Ree Bug! AHH! Her husband just got off the boat with fresh Tanner Crab and wondered if we would like some. Duh! Anyway she came over and there were 2 nice Crabs. Lars was in heaven. He is just lucky to be here to eat some! Oct. is King Crab season. This year the crabbers have quotas to match so they hope the weather gets better. It is the most dangerous job in the world.

Food anyone?
Today we woke up at 10:00, 5 hours of sleep. I felt pretty good. I went to get up and almost fell to my knees. I am soooooo soar. Every muscle in my body aches. Lars told me that I will be in for alot of pain and he was right. We don't go to the gym on Sundays and so I get to recover. I had to make marshmello brownies and sugar cookies for the girls fundraiser to go to Washington DC. They requested that I make chocolate chip cookies *Marilyn's recipe, every sunday. I wanted to make a variety and let them taste all the awesome fattening things that I can make. Well Lars caught 4 more silvers today so I made salmon and then we got invited to go next door and have Sunday dinner with the family. There was steaks, vegtable tray, hamburgers, ribs, BBQ chicken, rice, Salmon, Brownies, sugar cookies, heck you name it we had it. Now I really need to get to the gym tommorow. Well we are cleaning salmon and then hittin' the sack!
Cherie is out!

Party all the time
Today I coudn't get out of bed. I had the biggest migrain. I have never had a migrain. We were out of asprin and Lars was down at the docks picking up our food that came in. It took him an hour to find the unloading area, then the frozen section. Ordering from Seattle is so much cheaper. You can get cake mixes for .88 a box. Here they are 2.00 to 3.00. Holy! At about 1:00 he came back with asprin and the girls and I put the groceries away. Kim called me and it was time to go to the gym. I think that I am so out of shape and that was the reason I got the migrain. Dehydration! Well I knew that I had to get back to the gym and play Or I would never go back. So Trace and I took off. Trace made 3 baskets. He is getting pretty good. I only played one game and walked a mile and worked out. Came home and Lars just pulled up on the 4 wheeler. He had to go help the ambulance go find a guy that rolled on his 4 wheeler. He couldn't sit up, but he could feel his toes and fingers. I hope that he didn't break his back. They flew him to Anchorage. Well we showered and we all went over and played cards at Kim and Jasons. When we got done it was 5:00 am. Holy\Here time flies so fast. Everyone has stories to tell and they are good ones. The Kids play x-box and watch movies. Everyone hangs out with their family, all the time. It's cool.

It was just a game
Today was friday and boy am I glad. The weather makes everyday go by so quickly. We have a nice sunny day today. The kids all wanted to play at the play ground today and right when we were getting ready it began to rain. Oh well! We went to the Teacher appreciation night at 5:30. The food was great. It was held at the Russian Orthodox Church. Trace got up on the piano and played a crazy tune. I had to chase him around the podium to get him out of there. That's my boy! After that Kim and Roxi came and picked me up and we went to the gym at the High School and worked out then ran and THEN Played 3 games of basketball fist team to 10. Hello, I am soooo out of shape! But I did hang with them and showed them some good "D". I made 2 baskets a game. Not good, but if I keep it up I can only get better. It is just a game anyway. I came home showered and worked on the blog so all you fine people can read my family journal. Peace out, Girl Scout! I AM OUT!

Bears,Bears and more Bears
Well Trace went to school with his awesome haircut. No one made fun of him or made him feel bad. The girls got their physicals for Co Ed Volleyball and Basketball. Good luck girls! We got home after the appts. and ate dinner. Lars went out to kennel the dogs and there were cops and people on their roofs. I tried to get a picture but it was too dark. The cops had been called three times today to run off this huge yellow bear. I guess the older they get the blonder they get. So this one is a grandpa. The cops had these huge guns and these ear muffs that look like a sonar or something. Well the bear took off and cruised over to our house and ended up at the city building. So yea, once again we didn't get to see the bear. I cut Traces hair before he went to bed and he was so upset. He wanted to go to school with his own hair cut! I tried to tell him that it will grow back and he finally got over it. He shouldn't have cut his hair. Poor little Trace, But he was a proud little Trace.

Today was nothing but harsh wind and rain. No planes flew in or out. It was so loud that it was hard to hear in the class room. When we got home the phone company came over and hooked up our dsl! yeah now i can do everything from home. well while i was helping the computer man Trace was in the bedroom cutting his own hair. It was eye shocking. He looks just like a cross between Lloyd Christmas and Joe Dirt. Wait till you get the picture on the blog. I told him that I wont be able to fix it until after school tomarow and that some kids might make fun of him. He said no they wont and comfertable going. We will see how it goes.

Cherie goes full time!
Today I got upped to 21 hours a week with the head start. That means i am eligable for benefits. Yeah!I will work Monday-Friday and get off work when the kids do. We are still working on pay schedule but it is more than I would be sitting at home alone while Trace is at school. Lars went fishing after school and brought home four nice Silvers. Our freezer is getting full. The girls are keeping up in school and Trace and I play with a lot of play dough! Elyse has been asked out by a boy named Andrew Wilson, he stopped by unanounced and watched the Longest Yard with us. He seemed to be nice enough to take her out when she is 20. I just dont know anyone very well and i am very protective.

Trace starts Preschool
Today was Traces first day of preschool. Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays; 8:00am to 11:30. He goes to Head Start Tue. through Fri.; 11:30 to 3:00. He really likes it alot. He seems to not mind having me there in class with him. If he gets his feelings hurt, He tries not to run to mommy. Today we had a bear in the backyard of the neigbors. They got out a gun and it started to run into the Alder bushes. We didn't even get to see it. Lars was gone fishing for Silvers and brought home 6 nice fish. Our camera cord is MIA. I thought I left it a Lisa and CJ's, but that wasn't were I found it. It was in Lars' desk at school. So now we are going to down load and try and get some pictures of King Cove on the Blog. Neisha has been studying for Drivers Ed. Lars and I have to take the test also. We have to get new licenses if employed in AK. We ate salmon for dinner and hit the sack.

Windy King Cove
Today was bad. Windy, rainy and just plain crappy. Lars couldn't even fish. The girls made brownies and cookies for the bake sale to raise money for the fundraiser so they can go to Washington DC with student council. We all just hung out at home and played Pin Ball on the computer.

Shake N Bake Pizza
About Last night. We got that Pizza we ordered and when I opened the box it must have been swung around or carried upside down. The delivery boy was 8 yrs. old and is the Pizza Ladies grandson, our neighbor. He was so proud that he got to deliver the pizza that he probably got ver excited. It was still awesome! While we were eating the pizza we got a call from the neighbors that there were 5 bears in the neigborhood and to keep a look out. The police spotted on and were trying to run it off and it turned on the cop so he shot it in the face and it ran away. A bear is bad, but an injured bear is worse. This season is when the bears run through town and everyone needs to be very careful. Well this morning started out nice. I made my first Salmonberry Jam. It was great. Really good on french toast. We had to go to the dump and I was driving. As soon as we came through the gate we turned to back in and there in front of me was a bear! My first bear in King Cove! I froze and Lars had to slap me to get me to come out of it. At least that's what he said he slapped me for? The girls got invited to their first B-Day Party. (Across the street) It makes me feel better when can see them. When they got home I smelled there breath and tucked them in. You can never be overprotective, can you?

Bears, Kids & Mud
Last night We had every dog in the damn neighborhood on my front porch eating the dog food. How they figured out how to get inside the dutch oven is beyond me. I woke up in a panic thinking that it was a bear on the porch. Lars jumped out of bed wondering why I jumped out of bed. Our hearts were pumping, then madder than hell when we found out it was a pack of dogs. Saije stayed home sick again. The girls have been riding the bus so they don't have to get up at 5:00am anymore. And Trace and I watched Young Guns and ate cereal. Today was a wierd day. It felt so slow. And the kids knew that it was Friday so they were bouncing off the walls. We ended up taking them outside and blow bubbles so that they could get a little energy out of them. The sun is out and the mud is awesome! I think we will do some riding this weekend. We are going to order pizza tonight for dinner and get a movie. I live for my weekends! Lars is also very ready for the weekend. He has been doing great and the kids love him. Weather we are here next year is up to the towns people. There is a huge bear hanging out at the dump and the kids came to class today telling us that we need to go see it. It is an old fat one. We miss you all and wish that you were here to see the bear!

Kids, you gotta love 'em
Well one more day till Friday! Yipee! Saije feels alot better today. She got up and liked like someone gave her two black eyes. Today the kids played with this stuff called Oogleck. It is Corn Starch and Water. It is cool. You can ick it up and it is hard then it melts imediately and runs like melted butter. The kids love it. Tonight we have a School Open House at 7:00pm and Lars has to be there until it is over. We are heading home and having chicken tonight. Maybe Trace will eat!

Saije is a sicko
Today went a little better. One of the little boys, Baby. Had a very bad day. He screamed if he didn't win or couldn't go first. Poor boy. Some days I feel like that. Saije had to go home sick today. They thought she had pink eye. I knew that she didn't because I had been having her put ice packs on her eyes for the last 3 days. She has a pretty good cold and her eyes just run. So After aiding all day off I went to the Dr. office. I spent 2 hours there and had plenty of time to fill out the entire families medical records. She didn't have pink eye and ended up with a sinus infection! Yuck! She has to take a antibiotic 3 times a day for 10 days. She is going to stay home tomorrow and try and get better. After getting home we ate Halibut and Trace ate only rice, again! Poor kid is going to stay little if he dosen't get over what ever he is going through. We have been trying to get the internet hooked up. They said it will be 5 days. I hope it will be sooner so the kids get off my back about it! Today I am really ready for bed!

Playing for a job
Today is my first day of being an official teachers aide. It sure is alot to keep up with. We have 7 Kids and trying to keep up with them drains you. We start with lunch. They each serve themselves and clean up their tray. Then it is time to go to the gym. One of the boys ripped off my toenail. He didn't mean to, but if I can keep it that would be nice. Trace first stepped on it last week and I about fainted. Saije thought I was dieing and Trace began crying, all within a second of eachother. When we get back to the room we play games and then read on the rug. At 2:30 we began snack time and then the kids all brush their teeth and then GO HOME!
I went home exhausted! I am glad that I don't have 7 kids under the age of 4. I am suposed to go to the gym with Kim, but I think that I will have to get used to this first.

Cracking the whip.
My mornings still begin at 5:00am. I am the jailor, and I get results! Trace and I went back to bed after everyone left. We did some shopping after Lars came home for lunch and gave me the Bourban. Man the food bill is going to break us! I wish that we could grow eggs and milk. Lars and Trace headed out got some silvers at Lenords Bay. They caught Humpy's, Yuck! He also ran into a Local that was realing in Silvers one right after another. He showed Lars the rig and now he should have better luck. They also went over to the dead bear and tried to get a claw or a tooth. It was still too stinky. Trace said that it was as big as the couch! I am going to do parent time in class with Trace tomorrow. I hope that it is a good experince for us both.

Lazy Day
Today we have been lazy. Not much to do but Laundry! Trace and Lars went fishing, still NO Silvers! The weather dropped to 47 degrees. It was to cold to play so we never went out side. Trace dosen't have school on Monday's so we are going to hang out.

Tace's first time at a Bday party.
Woke up late today! We stayed up til 2:00 am at the Newman's. They love to visit and entertain. They had the kids playing games and making shakes in the pizza parlor. They had video games, movies and food! Those bears emded up over at the neighbors and they tore up their satilite dish. The girls got invited to go riding to Belkoski Bay. When they came back they were muddy from head to toe! They actually had fun. Lars ended up going also with the neighbor, Les. While he was gone Trace was invited to a birthday party of a classmate named Jalaya. She is now 5. He never got off my lap the whole time. Well he did go in to see the baby chicks in the bathroom. They were so cute. When it was time to hit the pinata he refused to put on the blind fold and stayed on my lap. Jalaya got a Dora the Explorer tent and Trace anounced to everone that he will not go in a girls tent, EVER! I am very glad to hear that! When we got home Lars pulled up covered in mud. He said that they had a better ride than the first time we went. He only got stuck 4 times instead of 20. I am the only one in KC that cuts hair and the word is getting out. I had my first hair cut today, Kim. She didn't want anything fancy but she is a paying customer! After dinner we all sat down and watched Sahara then fell asleep on the couch.

A visit from the 3 Bears
Today is finally friday. I got the kids to school and Trace to the Babysitter. I had a meeting with the Principal this morning and I turned down the Subing position. He was suprised but understood that I applied at headstart and need to be with my son. The Interview went great. I was very happy with my answers and they kept commenting on how well I interview. When I got home I got the call and I got the job! Marty told me that they kept wanting to have me transfer to Sandpoint and work there. Oh No! I am staying right here. Tonight we are going to go to Kim and Jasons parents house 3 doors down. They also own the only pizza place in town and it is in their basement. We had a great time . While we were there the police were at our house taking care of the Three Bears. I thought that it was Goldielocks that visited not the other way around! well they got them taken care of and we got in our house safely.

Back to babysitters?
Well no one could get out of bed this morning and I am subing for the rest of the week. Trace has to go to a Babysitter for the next 2 days. He seems to be ok. I will take him to her house at 7;15 and she will bring him to the school at 11:30 for head start. The Secretary is very sick and will be out for a few weeks. They need to hire someone for her position and the principal is looking at me to do it. I have talked to Lars and I am not going to do it. I want to spend time with Trace and that is that. the girls have met some friends & are going to the teen center tonight. I hope they get along and stay out of trouble. We are going to fry up some Halibut and hit the sack.

Three more days til friday
I am starting to get on a schedule. It's alot to go to bed at 9:00. School is going OK for the girls. They also have been working on getting the dance company going after school. I think it will be fun for them and give them alot of experience in teaching. Trace is really doing great in school. I hope that he keeps doing well if I am in the classroom with him. Lars has had a pretty crazy day. I get to interview for the head start position tomorrow. I am the only one that applied so my chances are good. They have a strict interviewing process and all of my experience should help out.
Wish me luck!

Back in the swing of things
This morning 5:00 came way to early. I Am to sub all week for the school secretary. The one sec. does everything that the 4 sec's did at WHS. Well you have to also consider that we have 93 students to there 993! Anyway, the girls degan their rutine as they shuffle from station to station getting all beautified! I made breakfast and got Lars and Muck up at 6:00. Trace was so tired he couldn't even eat his maple syrup soaked pancakes! After we were already to leave Trace had to make a quick pit stop. He never came out so I went in! His poor little face said it all He was wet from his knees down. He couldn't even explain it, But I could! He was still asleep! So we had to do a quick bath and head to school! Maybe tonight he will go straight to bed! Mucks words for the day: He took ahold of LArs's cheeks and looked him straight in the eyesand said;"Dad, shen I snap my fingers you need to do what ever I say. And do it NOW!" I wonder where he got that from? Well 3 more days til friday!

Trace got to play with a ship game just like uncle Nick left at Grandma and Grandpa Larsens house! It was nice to hang out and not dig our selves out of the swamps or river! We have school tomorrow and so we are calling it a night! The summer is officially over!

The things we people do!
We went on a 4 wheeler ride to Lenards Harbor to catch some silvers. We had to cross the
"stinking" river a hundred times. Oh all the dead fish, They were everywhere! And the smell....Oh my Hell! Everytime the water would splash on me I would about puke! Trace had to plug his nose it was so sick! When we finally got to the fishing hole, there were bear tracks all over the place. We all had guns and were on the look out constantly. The kids all cought fish. No Silvers, but those stinky Hump's as Trace would say. We went with 3 other families and ate Burgers and Hot Dogs. We even had smore's! I thought that was a Utah thing. Things that make you go, Humm? The girls drove up with a girl named Charlene. They followed us in her 2 wheel drive truck! They made it all the way. Then it began to rain. Well not thinking how mwny times we had to re-cross the river and how much it had risen since it began raining! Hello! The truck got stuck in the middle of the river! When we got the girls out they opened the doors and the water came gushing out! They had water up to the seats! This was not a Virgin river it was a large stream so we had everything under control and no one got hurt! Well when we finally got home,Lars and Paul had to go pull his daughters truck home because it ruined the engine. I couldn't belive that they drove that truck into water in the first place! All in all we had a great time. And we still haven't seen any bears!

Come and get it!
Last night I did nothing but dream of biquits and gravy. I woke up starving! So at 8:00am I made the most awesome gravy ever! I don't think that I did anything different, I think it was because I was STARVING! Well we took off and worked in the music room for a few hours. Lars said that he has never seen an OLD collection of band music quite like this one. Albums, sheet music, you name it! The old music teacher never threw anything away. After doing some heavy dusting and getting caught up on my blog we headed home. For dinner we ate pizza. I should start selling those things! I am getting pretty good at it! It's damn sure better than the chinesse around here. We watched 3 Alien shown, read the Hobbit and and listened to 3 bears out side torment the neighbor hood dogs! That was so crazy! It is a good thing that the dogs are in the trailer at night! Then we hit the sack!

When you give the Muck a glass of milk.
Well we got invited to lunch over at Kim and Jasons because they had tons of food left over. The Aluet people are very generous. Lars and Trace went down to the Stinking Hole! I call it that because of all the dead fish that are done spawning! It is truely amazing how many fish are in the river. Well Lars couldn't stand the smell and came right back home. See I told you! We ate Soup and Sandwiches and had a book writting astraviganza! Tonight we are going to see who wrote the best book. You know the ones that are, If you give a Moose a Cookie or a Pig a Pancake? We have one if you give Muck a glass of milk! This should be good!

A little BBQ and R & R?
Everyone woke up early and did their chores and we walked up the street and did some visiting! Everyone has made us feel welcome and reassured that if we ever loose our roof or 4 wheelers that they will be right there to help us! Boy that makes me feel better! But what really makes me feel better is that if we do loose our roof we won't have to pay for it! Now our 4 wheelers we are staking down along with the trailer. They don't strap stuff down just for fun! For dinner we got invited to a little BBQ. Kim and Jason made a feast! I made some cinnimon rolls and they had everything else covered. We sat around and got to know eachother and the girls got to watch Fuse, finally! Trace played motorcycle video games, and now he wants one from Santa Clause. Lars went to bed early and never even came over to eat. He is a tired boy. And for the last 2 days our neighbors had their music booming and we didn't get to sleep until 12:00am. I was ready to go our on the deck and shoot the shot gun in the air to get somebody's attention so I can get some sleep! But I didn't , Lars slapped some sence into me and I put in some ear plugs and went to sleep! Oh, we were informed that there is a mens and womens Basketball league. It starts up in a few weeks. I can't wait to get some exersize! I hope Lars gets involved so he will stay out of trouble. He has been asked to help out with the Basketball team ao he should be way distracted. Smile! And Bear season started today! EEK!

One week to go!
Today I took the girls to the grocery store to check on their applications. They haven't interviewed anyone and they probably will only hire one person. They will call for interviews next week. So we will see who gets it. Lars is getting a little cranky! He is on overload with all the meetings and he has ADD and can't sit that long without raising his had and going to the bathroom so he can stretch his legs! You can tell when he is going to freak when he gets that look in his eye, and we all ask; have you taken your meds yet? We love that big hunk! The girls are getting ancy for school to start and so is Trace. Early to rise means eary to fall down and CRASH!

A new day.
Having Lars gone for most the day is nice! He dosen't have time to worry if I am getting the things done that I need to. I am used to getting up and leaving at 6:45 with the girls and comming home at 4:00pm. Now I get to wake up when Trace does and eat breakfast with them and keep up with everything that is going on. Not that much is going on right now, but just getting caught up on all that I have missed this summer! And that is PLENTY! There is a grocery delivery barg that comes out of Seattle and delivers right oto the docks! We need to order some food for the winter, it is quite a bit cheaper than buying it here at the local store. Today it is raining in sheets! It is so cool! And the wind just carries the sheets right out to sea. Tonight clam chowder! Elyse hates potatoes and Trace hates everything but Salmon. So it should be a hit!

Get ready and Go!
Lars woke up at 7:30 am and started his new job! He has inservice all week and the kids don't starat until Tue. Sept. 6. I can't wait to see if I get to sub. for any of the girls classes. Trace starts Head Start on Tue., but Pre-School doesnt' start until Oct. The teacher is having a baby any day. If I get the job I will drive the bus to pick up the kids and work from 10:00 to 12:00. Then 1:00 to 3:00 and drive the kids home. I think will really like it. I am still working on getting Neisha a math class that the school dosen't offer. Alg. II of all things. She has to have 3 years of math to graduate, and that means that she either takes the lower math class or do it over the internet. She already has 16 credits and she needs 22 to graduate, so her and Elyse should be out the same year. I will be loosing 2 kids! I am not sure I am ready to loose one!

Mud Surfing in King Cove, AK.
Today was a Blast! We took off on the 4 wheelers and went over to Belkoftski Bay. It was the muddiest mess I have ever been in. Every 100 ft. was a mud bog from hell. Lars was stuck in everyother mud hole. Thank goodness our neighbor Paul had a winch. I had to be pulled out 3 times. I wouldn't have got stuck if I didn't have Trace on with me. You have to haul ass and ride standing up to maneveur across the mess. Lars had 30 ft. roosters flying behind him, whoever was behind him was wishing they weren't that close. By the time we got to the shore line all you could see of Lars was a huge black man. He took off his glasses and then you could tell how deep the slude on him was. We began the ride with 5 4-wheelers. The Post Master, she lives 2 houses up from us. Paul and Marlene, She is the School secretary and they live 3 houses down form us. Pauls sister Jane and her daughter Zena. Connie, a good friend of Marleen's. Ok, so we got to the shore line and ate some snacks while Trace and Zena collected Dungenous Crabs on the beach. About 1/2 went by and here came 15 more 4-wheelers. Some with 2 people on them. I have never seen that many people all on 4-wheelers that knew eachother. Well Annette the History teacher and her family showed up right after the 15. so know we have a group of 25. We rode down to the waterfalls that fall right into the ocean. You have to ride through it. We got off and checked in the rocks for starfish, but only saw some huge bear tracks. They measured 12 inches wide and 14 long. Yea we got the hell out of there! We headed back which was just as much fun as the trip there. You could here me laughing everytime I got stuck. I felt bad to slow everyone down, but no one really cared. They were enjoying watching Lars fly through the mud in a frantic zig zag to stay on top of the mud. Well we got to a spot that we had to go one by one until you got all the way across. It was my turn and all the sudden everyone started pointing and laughing at something behind me. So I stopped and looked and there lay Lars on sprawled out on his back in front of his wheeler. All you could hear was that little Lars giggle. He finally stood up and everyone began to clap and yell, He's up and he's ok! Trace was begining to think that we were never going to get home. HE thought we were going to die in the black mud! So did I until we finally hit the main road! We will all be soar tomorrow, but I will never forget the good time that we had. On our way home we saw a dead grizzly bear. They said that there was a wounded bear and that it was probably the same one and it finally died. They wanted to go and get some claws off it or some teeth, But it stunk so bad that you couldn't get within 100 ft. of it. When we got home we ate tacos and sprayed everything off. Including Lars! I woke up in the night and couldn't see out of one eye. I went to the mirror and my right eye was swollen shut. I must have got bitten while we were mud surfing. I was covered in mud, how would I know! Tomorrow Lars starts all the inservice and computer training. School starts next week and I substitute for the History teacher on Friday. My first time being a Sub! Ya Hoo!

Polka Party Anyone?
Today we watched Treasure Planet and ate egg mclarsens. Lars dropped Weezy and I off at the school to get some things done and work on the blogg. We have a Polka Party to go to tonight. They are raising money for the Eddie Mack Scholarship. We have found two large salmon berries to enter in the contest. They weigh them, measure them, and then choose a winner. There is also a lady that plays polka music and is bringing her band. This shall be interesting and fun! We eat dinner there and dance the night away, adults and kids.

What the hell?
This morning we woke up to 5 baby mice. The mom ate half of one and the rest died. It was a blood bath. What is it with all the animals being pregnant with out us knowing. Greater the goat and now Charli the mouse. We are not excepting anymore animals as gifts. We rented the movie Duplex which totally tripped us out, but laughed hysterically. Had a little din din and hit the sack.

Meet the neighbors.
Woke up and ate waffles and had home made buttermilk syrup, man was it good! we had our first visitor for the day. He lives three houses away. He brought over a wild mouse to put in Traces hamster cage, also to get a look at Neisha. The damn thing ran the treadmill all night. The girls had Grace, Heather and Kelli come over. They hung out with them on the Ferry and like to play barbies with them. yeah thats right I said barbies. Thank goodness there still good girls around. We made homemade pizza and breadsticks and went to bed early.

Partying with the Teachers!
Well it all started by a phone call, then another. Still no one answered the phone only the answering machine. We couldnt get out of bed no matter what. The storm has never stopped. I cant wait until I get used to the wind, then maybe I'll get some sleep. We finally got up and ate breakfast and went to Lars' classroom. We made some copies and laminated a bunch of stuff and called it a day. The Gypsy needs some TLC so Lars cleaned the engine and found out he needs to work on the starter and do a tune up. I made dinner while he was outside talking to CJ on the phone about hunting and fishing. We love ya CJ and Lisa! We had also got invited to a teacher party at the headstart teachers house. At 6:30 pm we went and met all the teachers Lars will be working with. There was a lot of great food from Salmon, asparagus, BBQ wings, to Capers. I had heard of Capers in a movie and now I have actually tasted them. Excellent! A little cream cheese on a cracker topped with Capers. After visiting for a few hours our friendships grew. It is good to get to know who u will be working with before u are thrown to the wolves. Lars will fit in great. Came home and read the Hobbit to Trace and went to bed.

The girls are getting ready for school.
Today I took the girls to meet with the principal. Elyse has a bunch of testing to do this year. Utah and Alaska have seperate test so she gets to do it all over again. Neisha has as many credits as Elyse so she has to meet with the Superintendant. They don't have a math class for her to take. No trig or calculus. She has to take 2 LA this year and she should be able to graduate with Elyse. It pays off to take all the hard classes and get strait A's. Go Neisha! As for Saije she is taking woods and Computers. She has also went out for Cross Country. She came home after running 1 1/2 miles. She borrowed Neisha's shoes to run in and didn't get to finish the 8 miles. She got a huge gash in her ankle and is bleed everywhere. Making Neisha's shoes not so cute anymore. Marilyn is sending us some meds for Lars and Elyse so she is going to look for Saije some good running shoes so she can actually run instead of pick up boys! Which Saije was approached by two boys and they wanted her phone #. She laughed and kept running. Elyse and Neisha applied at the Grocery store. Elyse wants to make $ but do nothing to get it. Neisha just wants to make $ to get off the Island! We had a doozy of a storm last night. It kept us up all night! I thought maybe we were'nt in King Cove anymore! The teachers are already taking the first friday off of school. They are leaving on the Ferry to COld Bay to hunt Ptarmigan and Caribou. Lars is going crazy trying to figure out the hunts around here. Maybe next year - Yea Right!
